Mostly 1s - Traditional animation

Traditional animation, also known as cel animation, is the oldest form of animation. A traditional animator will painstakingly hand-draw each frame of the animation on paper which is then photocopied onto transparent acetate sheets called cels (hence the term cel animation). Paint is applied before each cel is photographed individually and played sequentially to produce the illusion of movement.

This type of animation is great for artists that enjoy working with traditional media, particularly paint and colouring pencils. However, it’s a lengthy process which requires meticulous attention to detail in order to achieve a good result.

YOU - You’re old at heart and wise beyond your years. You take pride in completing a job to the highest possible standard and are achievement focused in all areas of life. Traditions are important to you and you’re a sentimental soul. You don’t need a big group of friends to feel content, instead you surround yourself with a small but dependable group of close friends.

Mostly 2s - 2D animation

2D animation brings animation into the 20th century. Instead of the time consuming process of traditional animation, 2D animation makes use of software such as Adobe After Effects to digitally manipulate images and create movement in a 2D environment. Due to its increased efficiency and versatility it has become a very popular choice for artists.

You’ll see this type of animation everywhere in day to day life, from popular TV shows, video games, websites, mobile apps and feature films.

YOU - The social butterfly within you thrives in large groups, you draw energy from crowds. You’re chatty and assertive, un-phased by any social situation and loved by all because of this. You're a natural with technology and pick up new skills easily.

Mostly 3s - 3D animation

3D animation, as the name suggests, is all about creating 3-dimensional moving objects in a digital environment. The objects can be moved and manipulated in the same way as real objects, creating powerful realistic looking visuals. 3D animation is a technically intensive process, often requiring separate specialists to model the character, rig it with bones and controls, animate it, and then texture and light it for the final output.

Due to its visual impact and versatility 3D animation is now a popular choice for modern feature length films, commercials and marketing content, however it also has practical applications in the medical industry and architecture.

YOU - You’re highly ambitious and love being faced with a challenge that pushes your problem solving abilities. You never let any hurdles hold you back in life and enjoy proving people wrong. Your creative mind means that you think outside of the box and see things from a different perspective to others. You’re all about the fast-paced lifestyle and love nothing more than an adventure.

Mostly 4s - Motion graphics

Motion graphics refers to a style of animation that predominantly features text and shapes to communicate the video’s message. Movement is applied to specific graphic design elements that would otherwise be static. It’s this movement which creates the impact to the viewer, creating entertaining visuals that keep viewers engaged.

This style is common within explainer videos as the heavy use of text, shapes and objects works harmoniously in explaining a wide array of products, services and concepts.

YOU - You’re a great communicator and take it upon yourself to take charge in group tasks with your natural ability to manage complex tasks and people. You’re a kind soul and generally love helping others. Variety is indeed the spice of your life, you love spontaneity and seeing where each day will take you.

Mostly 5s - Stop motion

Stop motion is a specific technique within animation which involves carefully moving physical objects or props between frames and capturing each slight change. When the sequence of images is then played back fast enough it creates the illusion of movement. Clay or plasticine figures are a popular choice in stop motion animation as they’re easy to manipulate when replicating different movements or facial expressions. While this style of animation is not as common in media these days, there are still filmmakers who work extensively with stop motion. Notably, Aardman Animations are well known for the iconic and well-loved Wallace and Gromit.

YOU - Naturally loveable and charming, you can hold the attention of a crowd. Despite this, you’re inherently introverted and prefer small groups and enjoy time by yourself. You’re a creature of habit and find comfort in routine and schedules, thriving when a good plan is in place. While spontaneity may not be your thing, you’re reliable and a loyal friend.
