Scape Technologies

Bringing vision to life through a collaboration of film and 3D motion graphics

Launching ScapeKit

Are you ready for next level augmented reality?

Scape Technologies are harnessing AI to enable camera devices to recognise their surroundings at an unprecedented scale. Their technology’s applications are transforming the functionality of mobile smart devices, opening the door for app developers to create accurate geo-based augmented reality across entire cities.

Our task was to create a video as visionary as the technologies being developed at the Scape headquarters.

Scape Technology Promotional Video

Merging the Physical and Digital World

This awesome brief presented the perfect opportunity for our animation and film teams to put their creative heads together. With almost limitless possibilities, the first challenge was to identify the perfect scenarios to highlight the technology's capabilities. With Scape's target audience in mind, three industries were quickly established; construction, gaming and social media.

The film team were let loose first, filming a variety of scenes across London to form the basis of the video. A comprehensive pre-production planning process ensured that the film crew were able to capture the exact shots required, including implementing some industry tricks that would be essential for the motion designers to track visuals later in editing.

Editing Masterclass

Back at the Posh Gecko studio the live action footage underwent a first round of editing, creating a punchy, high-energy sequence before being handed over to the capable hands of our 3D motion designers. Using those industry tricks we mentioned earlier, our designer was able to track the motion of specific objects, such as tablets, before seemlessly applying visual overlays to demonstrate the power of AR apps.

3D motion graphics were woven into the entire video, playing the fundamental role of showing the possibilities that Scapekit unlocks for AR developers. Rotoscoping (the process of manually tracing specific objects to separate them from the rest of the scene) allowed our designers to intertwine graphics and 3D objects amongst the existing buildings, people and even Tower Bridge. Say hello to UFOs flying across the Thames, interactive skyscrapers emerging from the city skyline and social posts floating around famous landmarks.

Versatile Videos

As the project developed, the usage of the video was expanded with the decision to create two versions of the video. The original video presents a purely visual narrative, while the additional video introduced additional footage offering the viewer a look inside the Scape head office with further information about ScapeKit, delivered by the Scape co-founder and CTO.

Delivering the Goods

Continual communication with Scape allowed us to get quick sign-off at each stage within the production process. This was important with a tight deadline to meet.

While both final videos have their own distinct purposes, they each seamlessly transition through a range of scenarios, allowing the viewers to observe content from both realities as if they were one, mirroring the potential of Scape’s technology.

Both videos now feature on Scape’s official website and are shared across their social media accounts to build brand awareness and educate their target audience.
