The International Maritime Employers’ Council (IMEC) represents its members in negotiations over wages and conditions of employment for seafarers. They run a cadet training program on behalf of members at the dedicated training campuses in the Philippines.
IMEC came to Posh Gecko for a bespoke animation depicting the journey of becoming an IMEC cadet. The video needed to compliment information on their dedicated ‘Cadets’ webpage and would be used to raise awareness via the official IMEC social media accounts.
They submitted a brief for a short animated story, showing a character bored with his life at home before embarking on an adventure at sea! They included a handful of key scenes showing how enjoyable life as a cadet can be and the many opportunities it can bring, both on shore and off shore.
The aim of the video was to recruit promising young individuals to their Enhanced Cadetship Programme in the Philippines.
Posh Gecko worked closely with IMEC throughout the full production process, starting with the development of animation and character style. We proposed a contemporary animation style to appeal to the target age group and better align with the IMEC branding.
The project animator then developed a storyboard with each scene being signed off by IMEC to ensure that the final video hit the mark.
Once the full storyboard was agreed, our animation team began with bringing it to life with 2D animation. Characters were transformed from illustrations to moving, relatable personalities with programmes like Joystick and Slidders and Rubberhose to apply natural movements and facial expressions.
The final stages saw the addition of professional voiceover and a carefully selected audio track.
Our animators brought one cadet’s story to life, showing the opportunities and support available from IMEC throughout the training process.
Seamless transitions link scenes together and allow us to move through various environments and character scenarios, providing viewers with a relatable character mirroring their own ambitions and potential.
The use of voiceover adds clarity, and context to the scenes, without distracting from the visual storytelling. A Filipino voice-over artist was sourced to add authenticity to the video and familiarity for the target Filipino audience.
